Insert drum roll Ladies and gentlemen, your favorite, irreverent Bollywood movie critic, Review Rani, is back in action! Brace yourselves as we embark on a rollercoaster ride through the highs and lows of the latest Bollywood offering, "Kuch Sapney Apne".
Let’s cut to the chase, shall we? So, we’ve got this cute couple, Kartik and Aman, all loved up and living life on their own terms. But, oh wait, there’s a twist! Our boy Kartik decides to get a little adventurous during a trip to Sweden (because why not?) and has a romantic rendezvous. This obviously doesn’t sit well with Aman, but what’s a Bollywood movie without a little drama, right?
Meanwhile, back at home, we’ve got Kartik’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perfect, navigating their own tumultuous relationship. Daddy dearest, Damodar, seems to have this strange concept that family honor is more important than accepting his son’s identity. Shocking, I know! 🙄 On the other side, we’ve got the loving mother, Vasudha, who, despite her husband’s insensitivity, stands by her son like a rock.
Now, just to spice things up, we’ve got Damodar’s brother, Ramesh, who decides to ditch his family and embrace his truth as an eunuch. Talk about a plot twist!
"Kuch Sapney Apne" is a melting pot of emotions, from love and acceptance to betrayal and heartbreak. It explores the intricacies of relationships, both romantic and familial, in a manner that tugs at your heartstrings. But, let’s not forget the performances. Mona Ambegaonkar as the empathetic mother, Shishir Sharma as the rigid father, and Satvik Bhatia and Arpit Chaudhary as the conflicted lovers, all deliver commendable performances. But, the star of the show is undoubtedly Abhay Kulkarni, who absolutely nails his role.
Then there’s the music, courtesy of Vishal Bhardwaj, that adds a touch of soul to the storyline. Director Sridhar Rangayan deserves a round of applause for handling such sensitive topics with utmost grace and compassion. But, as your beloved Review Rani, I must say, the film does tend to get a little heavy at times.
Nonetheless, "Kuch Sapney Apne" is more than just a film about a gay couple. It’s a mirror that reflects the challenges faced by the queer community in India and the patriarchal society that often turns a blind eye to them.
Rani’s Wrap-Up
So, that’s the skinny on "Kuch Sapney Apne". It’s a tear-jerker that will leave you reaching for the tissue box, but hey, who doesn’t love a good cry? As they say, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Or in this case, "When Bollywood gives you a film like ‘Kuch Sapney Apne’, grab a bucket of popcorn and enjoy the ride!" 😂🍿🎬
