Drum roll, please! 🥁 Welcome to another Review Rani special, where we take a deep dive into Bollywood’s latest offerings, with a generous dose of sarcasm, a sprinkle of wit, and plenty of eye-rolls.

Ready? Let’s go!

Today’s special: ‘Let’s Meet’ – a love story set in the time of… you guessed it, COVID-19. Because nothing screams romance like being locked up in your house, surviving on Dalgona coffee and banana bread.

The film follows the ‘tragic’ tale of Nikhil (Tanuj Virwani), a wannabe actor who’s got more luck in catching a cold than a break in love. Then, like a gust of fresh air (or in this case, a breath of fresh sanitizer), comes Riya (Suman Rana). She’s the queen of social distancing – so much so that she won’t even take off her mask during a virtual date. Talk about playing hard to get! 😷

The director, Ricky Sandhu, clearly had one job – to paint a picture of the pandemic’s impact on relationships. And boy, did he do it! The film is like a documentary on ‘COVID-19: The Heartbreak Edition.’ Tanuj Virwani’s performance is commendable, making us genuinely concerned about the plight of a man who just can’t catch a break.

On the flip side, Suman Rana gives us a character who’s as flexible as a brick wall. Her portrayal of Riya is so one-dimensional, it’s like watching a cardboard cutout. And the supporting cast? Let’s just say they’re about as memorable as yesterday’s lunch.

What ‘Let’s Meet’ lacks in pace, it makes up for in realism. The film is as raw as the emotions we all felt during that heartbreaking time. There are no unnecessary item songs thrown in for good measure, and no mindless subplots to distract us from the real issue at hand.

But, like a good Indian curry, this film packs a punch in the second half with a climax that hits you right in the feels. So, is ‘Let’s Meet’ the cinematic masterpiece of the year? Not quite. But it does do a good job of reminding us of the rollercoaster ride we’ve all been on.

Rani’s Wrap-Up: ‘Let’s Meet’ is a realistic portrayal of love in the time of corona – a time when Zoom dates replaced candlelight dinners, and ‘Netflix and chill’ took on a whole new meaning. It’s a film that may not win any awards, but it will surely make you nostalgically remember the time when toilet paper was more valuable than gold. 😂
