Drum roll, please! đ„ Welcome to another Review Rani special, where we take a deep dive into Bollywoodâs latest offerings, with a generous dose of sarcasm, a sprinkle of wit, and plenty of eye-rolls.
Ready? Letâs go!
Todayâs special: âLetâs Meetâ â a love story set in the time of⊠you guessed it, COVID-19. Because nothing screams romance like being locked up in your house, surviving on Dalgona coffee and banana bread.
The film follows the âtragicâ tale of Nikhil (Tanuj Virwani), a wannabe actor whoâs got more luck in catching a cold than a break in love. Then, like a gust of fresh air (or in this case, a breath of fresh sanitizer), comes Riya (Suman Rana). Sheâs the queen of social distancing â so much so that she wonât even take off her mask during a virtual date. Talk about playing hard to get! đ·
The director, Ricky Sandhu, clearly had one job â to paint a picture of the pandemicâs impact on relationships. And boy, did he do it! The film is like a documentary on âCOVID-19: The Heartbreak Edition.â Tanuj Virwaniâs performance is commendable, making us genuinely concerned about the plight of a man who just canât catch a break.
On the flip side, Suman Rana gives us a character whoâs as flexible as a brick wall. Her portrayal of Riya is so one-dimensional, itâs like watching a cardboard cutout. And the supporting cast? Letâs just say theyâre about as memorable as yesterdayâs lunch.
What âLetâs Meetâ lacks in pace, it makes up for in realism. The film is as raw as the emotions we all felt during that heartbreaking time. There are no unnecessary item songs thrown in for good measure, and no mindless subplots to distract us from the real issue at hand.
But, like a good Indian curry, this film packs a punch in the second half with a climax that hits you right in the feels. So, is âLetâs Meetâ the cinematic masterpiece of the year? Not quite. But it does do a good job of reminding us of the rollercoaster ride weâve all been on.
Raniâs Wrap-Up: âLetâs Meetâ is a realistic portrayal of love in the time of corona â a time when Zoom dates replaced candlelight dinners, and âNetflix and chillâ took on a whole new meaning. Itâs a film that may not win any awards, but it will surely make you nostalgically remember the time when toilet paper was more valuable than gold. đ
