Our protagonist, Mahendra ‘Mahi’ Agarwal (Rajkummar Rao), is a cricket enthusiast stuck in his father’s sports shop, while his wife, Mahima ‘Mahi’ Agarwal (Janhvi Kapoor), is a doctor navigating the cruel world of medicine. The duo shares a passion for cricket and each other, but when Mahi’s comeback attempt fails, he stumbles upon his wife’s hidden talent and becomes her coach. Will they conquer their fears and insecurities, or will they succumb to their old lives? Well, that’s the million-dollar question!
A round of applause to Director Sharan Sharma and co-writer Nikhil Mehrotra for weaving a not-so-conventional sports drama that explores the delicate dynamics of a relationship marred by self-doubt and jealousy. The film’s narrative is its strength, offering a unique glimpse into the lives of a newly married couple, their shared passion, and the rift that forms between them.
However, the film’s pacing could use a bit of work. The second half, where Mahi’s internal conflict takes center stage, feels a tad bit sluggish. And let’s not even get started on the part where Mr. Supremely Supportive suddenly transforms into Mr. Jealousy-incarnate after just one instance. It’s as if someone switched his character setting from ‘supportive’ to ‘insecure’ mid-scene.
On the brighter side, Rajkummar Rao’s portrayal of Mahi is nothing short of brilliant. He perfectly captures the essence of a son suppressed by societal expectations, a supportive husband, and a man seeking validation. And Janhvi Kapoor, as Mahima, is undoubtedly the shining star of the film, finding her identity and chasing her dreams with grace and determination.
