Pyar Ke Do Naam Film Review: A Love Story Muddled in Missed Philosophical Opportunities

Welcome, darlings, to another episode of "Review Rani" ripping apart another Bollywood flick that promised us the moon but ended up giving us a deflated balloon. 😴

So, let’s dive into this overcooked stew of a love story with a side of philosophy, shall we? Today’s dish on the menu is ‘Pyar Ke Do Naam’, which, pardon my French, is about as exciting as a bowl of unsalted popcorn. 🍿😥

Our star-crossed lovers in question are Aryan Khanna (played by Bhavya Sachdeva) and Kaira (played by a rather resilient Ankita Sahu). Aryan, the Cape Town scholar who thinks Nelson Mandela is the bee’s knees, meets Gandhi-enthusiast Kaira at a peace seminar in Aligarh. Love blooms amidst heated debates, but the question is – will their love survive their differing philosophies or will their hearts shatter into a million pieces?

Director Danish Javed surely had an appetite for grand ideas, which, sadly, did not translate well on-screen. The concept of two lovers embodying the ideologies of two great leaders is innovative, if not brilliant. But alas! The script and screenplay are about as deep as a kiddie pool, making the narrative as disjointed as a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces.

The film is riddled with plot holes that make you question the logic (or the lack of it). Like, for example, why would two random students break up over a tiff between our lead pair? And why do we have characters popping up without any reason like a bad game of whack-a-mole? 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Ankita Sahu, to her credit, does a commendable job portraying a woman seeking a permanent relationship, drawing from her mother’s painful past. But Bhavya Sachdeva, my dear, you are as wooden as a log. As for Kanika Gautam and Achal Tankwal, their efforts are as sincere as a cat promising not to chase a mouse. 🙀

‘Pyar Ke Do Naam’ is an attempt to weave a philosophical love story. But, as the saying goes, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions", and this film is a classic example of that. Instead of a thought-provoking love story, all we get is a half-baked romantic drama that fizzles out faster than a soda left open overnight.🥤💔
