Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama Film Review: A Divine Animation of an Epic Tale

🌟🌟🌟🌟 (4 out of 5 stars)

Oh, what’s that you hear? It’s just the sound of my heartstrings being yanked by a 90s anime classic! Ladies and gents, let’s talk about the cinematic revival of, dare I say it, the most epic of Indian epics, ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’. Buckle up, because Review Rani has got some things to say!

This Indo-Japanese love child of Yugo Sako, Koichi Sasaki and Ram Mohan is like a 90s kid’s dream come true. Imagine, our beloved Ramayana, but make it anime. A concept so fresh, you’d think they picked it straight from a hipster’s garden of ‘cool ideas’.

The creators have done a commendable job in capturing the essence of the epic tale while also adding a unique twist. It’s like they’ve taken the age-old tale, given it a good shake, added a few magic dust particles (also known as animation), and voila! A masterpiece served on a silver platter.

The voiceovers? Well, let’s just say it’s a mixed bag. Some are as profound as Ram’s sense of duty, others as impactful as a wet firecracker. But hey, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater. They’ve done a decent job in sticking to the roots of the epic and being respectful to its legacy.

There’s a lot to love about this iteration, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The animation might seem a tad too elementary for us sophisticated adults. And the action scenes? Let’s just say they’re as thrilling as watching paint dry. But hey, it’s not all about us, right? For the kiddos and those dipping their toes into the vibrant pool of Indian culture for the first time, it’s a perfect introduction to the grandeur of Ramayana.

👑 Rani’s Royal Wrap-Up 👑

To sum it up, ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’ is like a vintage wine with a twist of anime. It has its quirks and shortcomings, but the heart of the story remains as warm and inviting as a cup of chai on a rainy day. It’s far from perfect, but it’s a delightful way to relive the epic that’s been told and retold over millennia. And if you’ve never heard the tale, well, consider this your golden ticket to one of the grandest stories in human history. Enjoy the ride, folks! And remember, in the wise words of our beloved Hanuman, "the greatness of a person is in their deeds, not their words". Or in this case, their animated deeds!
