Savi Film Review: A Jailbreak Thriller That Almost Breaks Free But Falls Short of Redemption

🌟🌟🌟🌠🌚 (3.5 out of 5 stars! Note the half-star hiding behind the moon! Clever, right? 😉)

🎬🍿 Cue dramatic music "Jailbreaks, murder, and shady ex-cons, oh my!" Welcome to the world of ‘Savi,’ a film that’s part thriller, part comedy, and part "oh dear, what were they thinking?" This is Review Rani, your favorite modern-day Bollywood Sherlock, here to dissect the latest attempt at a jailbreak thriller, ‘Savi.’

Spoiler Alert: This one’s about as thrilling as watching paint dry. But hey, at least the paint doesn’t pretend to be a groundbreaking thriller! 😂

Our story revolves around Savi, a cheery Liverpool housewife who has her world turned upside down when her hubby, Nakul, is framed for a heinous murder. Determined to prove his innocence, our dashing damsel in distress hatches a daring plan to bust him out of prison. And who does she enlist for this herculean task? None other than an ex-con turned author, Joydeep Paul.

Now, if this plot sounds familiar, it’s because it is. It’s the same old "innocent man in jail, wife tries to get him out" storyline. The only twist here is that the wife enlists an ex-con to do so. But alas, even with this added twist, ‘Savi’ fails to break free from the shackles of predictability.

As for the performances, Divya Khosla does a commendable job as Savi, although her emotional range seems as limited as the menu at a vegan steakhouse. Harshvardhan Rane, as Nakul, is decent but is let down by a script that seems to have been written on a napkin during a coffee break. The saving grace, however, is Anil Kapoor, whose charismatic presence manages to brighten up an otherwise dull narrative.

The jailbreak genre has been done to death by Hollywood, with classics like ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ and ‘Escape from Alcatraz.’ ‘Savi’ had the potential to bring something fresh to this genre, but instead, it trips over its own shoelaces, delivering an escape sequence that’s more ‘meh’ than ‘wow.’

Now, don’t get me wrong. ‘Savi’ is not all bad. It has its moments, mostly thanks to Anil Kapoor’s witty one-liners. But as a whole, the film feels like a jigsaw puzzle with a few pieces missing. It’s an honest attempt at a jailbreak thriller, but unfortunately, it fails to make a clean getaway.

Rani’s Wrap-Up: If ‘Savi’ was a jail, I’d gladly serve my time elsewhere. But if you’re a fan of Bollywood thrillers that are as thrilling as a snail race, then ‘Savi’ might just be your cup of chai! 🐌🍵

Until next time, this is Review Rani, signing off. Remember, life’s too short for bad movies! 🎬👋🏽
