Sector 36 Film Review: A Crime Thriller That Delves Into Dark Depths, Not For The Faint of Heart

🤨🤨🤨🤮(2.5/5)

Yawn Brace yourselves, people! We’re diving into the depths of human depravity with a side of serious detective work. Yours truly, Review Rani, is back at her sarcastic best, to give you the low-down on this supposedly spine-chilling thriller – ‘Sector 36’.

‘Sector 36’, a newbie director’s attempt at a crime thriller, is based on the horrific Nithari killings. It is a tale that will have you squirming in your seats, not out of fear, but out of sheer discomfort. I mean, who wouldn’t cringe at the sight of a man nonchalantly chopping up bodies while tuning into ‘Sab Banenge Crorepati’? 🙄

Enter our protagonist, Vikrant Massey aka Prem, who’s as ordinary as they come. He’s a caretaker by day and a serial killer by night, and he has a peculiar fondness for teenagers – not in a creepy old man sort of way, but in a more ‘you’re my next victim’ kind of vibe.

But wait, there’s more! We have Deepak Dobriyal playing Inspector Ram Charan Pandey, wearing his grit and determination like a badge of honor, hellbent on solving this case of disappearing teenagers. He’s your classic cop, the lone wolf who won’t rest until justice is served. 😴

The director, Aditya Nimbalkar, has attempted to create a chilling narrative, highlighting the harsh realities of societal inequality. But the question is, does he successfully evoke any empathy for our troubled protagonist? Nah, he falls short, just like Vikrant Massey, who tries his best to portray the role of a psychotic killer but ends up looking like he’s having a bad day at work.

The film takes a nosedive in the second half, with plot twists that are as shocking as finding a cockroach in your biryani. The introduction of new characters only adds to the chaos, making the film as confusing as a Rubik’s cube.

And don’t even get me started on the supporting cast. Akash Khurana and Darshan Jariwala are as forgettable as my last diet plan. The only saving grace in this debacle is the background score, subtle enough to not distract from the already chaotic narrative.

Rani’s Wrap-Up:

‘Sector 36’ tries hard to be a gripping crime thriller but ends up being as exciting as watching paint dry. The film tries to capture the horror of the Nithari killings but falls flat on its face. This film is a stark reminder that real-life horrors are far more terrifying than bad cinema. But hey, if you’re a masochist who enjoys watching mediocre crime thrillers, by all means, go ahead and watch ‘Sector 36’. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you! 🙄😏
