Sequel Disaster: Mediocre Film, Snail-Paced Plot, Flimsy Screenplay, and Zero Laughs | Movie Review – Bad News

Hey Bollywood Buffs! It’s your favorite snoop, Bollywood Newshound Nisha, back with the latest scoop. Buckle up for a wild ride through the glittery yet murky lanes of Bollywood. 🎬✨

Alright, folks, Vicky Kaushal’s latest flick ‘Bad News’ hit the theaters today, and let’s just say, the title says it all. For the first time, Vicky, Ammy Virk, and Tripti Dimri have teamed up, and the film clocks in at a lengthy 2 hours and 22 minutes. The folks over at Hindi Movie News were kind enough to dish out 2.5 stars out of 5. Generous, much? 😏

What’s the plot, you ask?

The film kicks off with a cameo by none other than Ananya Panday. She’s here to dig into the success story of Saloni Bagga (Tripti Dimri), who’s just bagged one of the world’s biggest chef awards, the Meraki Star. Saloni recounts how she met Akhil Chadda (Vicky Kaushal), and just as quickly as they tied the knot, they untied it. Saloni believes that her dream of becoming a star chef would be flushed down the drain if she stuck around in the marriage.

So, our girl Saloni packs her bags and leaves Delhi, only to bump into Gurbir Pannu (Ammy Virk). The plot thickens when Saloni spends a ‘quality’ night with both Akhil and Gurbir, and—surprise, surprise—she ends up pregnant. Now she’s left scratching her head over who the baby daddy is. 🍼🤔

She convinces both guys to take a paternity test. And guess what? It’s a case of heteropaternal superfecundation! Yup, you heard it right. Saloni’s carrying twins from two different dads. The rest, well, you’ll have to watch the film to find out.

And how’s the star cast doing?

Vicky Kaushal is the star of the show, holding the audience’s attention with his body language and dialogue delivery. But comparing this role to his previous ones, it’s like trading a gourmet meal for a soggy sandwich. Tripti Dimri, who’s been dubbed the national crush post ‘Animal’, shares a sizzling chemistry with Vicky, but falters in emotional scenes.

Ammy Virk, bless his heart, gets a big break but fails to stand out in this love triangle. His comedy scenes with Tripti? About as funny as a root canal. Neha Dhupia and Sheeba Chaddha try to do justice to their roles, but Neha, girl, where’s the screen time?

The Direction—Yay or Nay?

This film was touted as a sequel to the 2019 hit ‘Good News’. Spoiler alert: It’s not. It’s more like a formula film with Vicky stepping into Akshay Kumar’s shoes and Ammy trying to fill Diljit Dosanjh’s.

The story drags from the get-go. The screenplay? Could’ve been tighter than my jeans after a Bollywood buffet. The film is peppered with sex, lame jokes, and a dash of emotional drama, but it all adds up to an average affair. Some scenes are so boring they could put you into a coma. And the comedy? Let’s just say you’ll be keeping a straight face.

And the music?

Apart from ‘Tauba Tauba’, none of the songs are earworms. The background score? Meh. At times, it feels like a Karan Johar film’s BGM was playing on shuffle.

Final Verdict: To Watch or Not to Watch?

This film neither entertains nor imparts any significant message. The songs and dialogues are mostly in Punjabi, so if you’ve got a working knowledge of the language and enjoy suspending all logic, you might have a good time.

Nisha’s Nutshell:

Bollywood’s latest flick proves that sometimes two dads are not better than one, especially in a film that tries too hard to be funny but ends up being a comedy of errors. 😂🎬
