🌟🌟🌟✨ (3.5/5)
Hold onto your popcorn, folks! Because I, your beloved Review Rani, am about to dive into Bollywood’s latest offering, "The Defective Detectives." Now, don’t let the title fool you into thinking you’re in for a rip-roaring comedy extravaganza. No siree! What we’ve got here is a comedy that’s as inconsistent as Mumbai’s monsoon showers! 😂
So, the tale is about three pals, Shree (Siddharth Jadhav), Manav (Jayesh Thakkar), and Aadi (Paritosh Painter). They’ve got more money troubles than a gambler at a Vegas casino, and so they start their own detective agency. The plot twist here is that Shree is blind, Manav is mute, and Aadi is deaf. Talk about a trio of sensory supermen! 🙈🙉🙊
While vacationing in Goa (because who doesn’t love a good beach?), they bump into Maria Mantri (Shweta Gulati), a damsel in distress who’s been conned out of her ancestral property by her father’s so-called friend, Ganesh D’Souza (Bharat Dabholkar). Touched by Maria’s sob story, our heroes team up with her to swindle D’Souza right back. Their plan involves a priceless necklace, a Nawab (no kidding), and a bunch of disguises. The Sherlock Holmes in me is giddy with anticipation! 🕵️♀️💎
The big problem with "The Defective Detectives" is that it’s about as funny as a root canal. The chuckles are few and far between, and much of the supposed humor is lost in translation, like a game of broken telephone. Even the legendary Johny Lever couldn’t save the sinking comedic ship. The film does have an interesting plot about the trio pulling off a big con, keeping you engaged just enough to not walk out of the theater. 🤷♀️
The performances are decent, but not enough to tickle your funny bone. Paritosh Painter, Siddharth Jadhav, and Jayesh Thakkar give it their all, but their comedic chops are as dull as a butter knife. Tejaswini Lonari stands out as Inspector Aaliya Sawant, a tough-as-nails cop. Johny Lever, as the down-and-out Nawab, shows promise, but gets mired in an uneven screenplay. Bharat Dabholkar, as the conman D’Souza, delivers some corny lines like "Change your action, or regret my reaction" that adds a few chuckles. 🎭
"The Defective Detectives" could’ve been a comedic goldmine, but instead, it’s a comedy dud. The film is about as funny as a clown at a funeral. Although it has some moments that may make you chuckle, the pressure to consistently deliver comedy gags proves to be its Achilles heel. It’s the kind of film you’d watch when there is absolutely nothing else to do, or when you want to have a nap in a cool, dark room. 💤
Rani’s Ridiculously Rib-tickling Round-up
So, folks, in the end, "The Defective Detectives" is a comedy that’s about as funny as a flat tire on a road trip. It’s like ordering a pizza and getting a salad instead. If you’ve got some time to kill and nothing better to do, give it a watch. Otherwise, save your money for the popcorn. 🍿😜
