Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Film Review: A Haphazard Honeymoon in a 90’s Nostalgia Trip Gone Awry

🙄🙄🤨🤨 (2 out of 5)

Well, well, well, what do we have here? A film that attempted to bring back the nineties, only to land up as a scrambled mess, desperately trying to find its footing. Ladies and gents, hold onto your popcorn tubs, as I, Review Rani, serve you a piece of my mind on the not-so-breathtaking rollercoaster ride that is ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.’

In the pre-selfie, pre-Instagram era, the film attempts to unravel the chaos that follows when a honeymoon video of a middle-class couple, Vicky (Rajkummar Rao) and Vidya (Triptii Dimri), goes missing. Sounds intriguing, right? But hold your horses, it’s not half as thrilling as it sounds. The film, in an attempt to juggle multiple genres, comes off as a circus act, swinging between slapstick comedy, social commentary, and the supernatural.

The star-studded cast, including the likes of Vijay Raaz and Mallika Sherawat, and a special appearance by Ashwini Kalsekar, couldn’t save this sinking ship. Even a dance number by Shehnaaz Gill couldn’t set this film on fire.

The film tries to recreate the charm of the ’90s but ends up looking like a poorly done pastiche. The characters are as flat as a pancake, with the script doing little to peel the layers off them. The film also tries to push boundaries with a progressive theme, featuring Vicky as a male mehendi artist and Vidya, a doctor. But alas, it’s all skin-deep. Instead, the film seems to revel in shaming of all kinds – fat, thin, slut, age, look – you name it, they have it!

Rajkummar, with his impeccable comic timing and acting prowess, deserved a better platform. Triptii, while pleasant, is left with a part that doesn’t do her justice. Vijay Raaz shines with his one-liners, but even he couldn’t save the day.

Attempting to be a blend of Priyadarshan’s past hits, the film fails to hit the mark. It tries too hard, only to end up being a jumbled mess of comedy, nostalgia, and morality, with a bizarre climax that will leave you scratching your head. The film suddenly shifts gears and gets into an activism mode before resorting to horror comedy. Add to it the caricature-like portrayal of Suniel Shetty, and you’ll get why this film is a hot mess!

Rani’s Wrap-Up: ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ seems like a film that was baked with half the ingredients and double the confusion. If you’re in for some mindless comedy, this might be your pick. But remember, I warned you! 😉😁
