The promotional event of the South Indian flick, Gangs of Godavari, recently turned into a battlefield. The leading lady, Anjali, was publicly pushed by Telugu actor Balakrishna on stage. The incident, caught on camera, went viral, triggering a wave of criticism against the actor, including a public disapproval from popular Bollywood director, Hansal Mehta. However, amidst the controversy, Anjali seems to be playing the peacekeeper.
Anjali shared a video of the event on her social media, expressing gratitude towards Balakrishna for gracing the event with his presence. She wrote, “I would like to thank Balakrishna for being a part of the pre-release event of Gangs of Godavari. I want to clarify that there’s mutual respect between us and we’ve been good friends for a long time. Sharing the stage with him was a great experience.”
But what exactly happened? During the pre-release event of Gangs of Godavari, Balakrishna, who was also on stage, gestured Anjali to move aside. When she didn’t comply, he pushed her. Anjali laughed it off, trying to defuse the situation. But the video stirred up a storm on social media, with netizens lashing out at Balakrishna. A section was also irked by Anjali’s laughter post the incident.
Post the push, Balakrishna was seen joking around with Anjali. Hansal Mehta, the director of the popular series Scam 1993, reposted the video on social media, asking, “Who is this ruffian?”
Anjali was trolled for laughing after being pushed, but found support from playback singer Chinmayi Sripada.
