Old-School Romance Meets New-Age Drama: Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Bada Naam Karenge’ is a Whiff of Freshness

Arre bhai, brace yourself for a delightful surprise! It’s not every day you stumble upon an OTT show that skips the gaali-galauj, bold scenes, or nail-biting suspense. But then again, we’re talking about a Rajshri production, so expect the unexpected!

Veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, at the age of 60, has taken a giant leap from the days of "Hum Saath Saath Hain" with its iconic line about ghar ki ladies to a fresh take where a boy serves food to a girl in "Bada Naam Karenge" without any sermonizing. Kya baat hai, Sooraj ji, kuch toh badaa kar diya aapne! 😎

Bada Naam Karenge is set against the backdrop of the Covid era (ironic, right? Fresh air in Covid times!) and introduces us to Rishabh Rathi (played by Ritik Ghanshani), a rich lad from Ratlam. He crosses paths with Surbhi (Ayesha Kaduskar) in the context of an arranged marriage setup. But wait, yeh toh pehle se jaante hain ek doosre ko! Flashback alert: They were in Mumbai when the Covid lockdown hit, and circumstances led Surbhi to stay at Rishabh’s place. Sparks flew, but will their relationship survive the strict family traditions? Especially when Rishabh’s family frowns upon even a peg of whiskey, let alone living in with a girl! Kya karega bechara Rishabh? 🤔

This series, directed by Palash Vaswani, is a breath of fresh air in the OTT world, which often thrives on dark and gritty stories. With each episode being a breezy 30 minutes (except the grand finale duo), it’s slow-paced love that connects instantly, even in the age of swipe rights and lefts. It’s binge-worthy without making you feel like you’re stuck in a time warp.

The performances are the cherry on top. The chemistry between Ritik and Ayesha is so natural that you might start rooting for them IRL. And the supporting cast? Kya kehne! From Kanwaljit Singh’s patriarchal grace to Rajesh Tailang’s scheming brilliance, each actor brings their A-game, making you laugh, cry, and feel all warm and fuzzy.

Overall, Bada Naam Karenge is a much-needed romantic respite for OTT audiences craving some wholesome content. It’s a family-friendly affair, steering clear of Baghban 2.0 vibes. Pura parivaar dekhega, popcorn laayein! 🍿

Bada Naam Karenge is now streaming on SonyLiv.

Kiran’s Gyan: Bollywood ka asli mazaa toh tab hai jab romance ko aise pesh kiya jaaye ki pura parivaar saath baithe aur bole, "Waah, kya baat hai!" Remember, pyar mein na thrill ki zaroorat hai, na gaaliyon ki. Sirf dil se dil tak ki baat hai! ❤️
